Care Instructions
We want your Kaly and Klay tools to last a long time, and knowing from experience we all end up with favourites that we use over and over again!
To keep your tools in tip-top condition, please follow these helpful tips on how to look after each one.
Clay cutters
Be gentle with your clay cutters and handle them with care as they are durable but indestructible.
Cleaning
Wash your cutters in lukewarm soapy water and let them air dry, they are not dishwasher safe.
I always wipe my cutters with a gentle baby wipe between uses to avoid colour transfer and deter a build-up of clay, especially with the smaller and more highly detailed cutters as clay getting stuck in the crevices is inevitable.
You can use a small tool or needle to remove these stuck pieces of clay after each use.
Storage
Store carefully to protect the blades and keep your cutters away from direct sunlight and strong sources of heat as they can warp.
Silkscreens
Cleaning
IMPORTANT: Place your silkscreen in a dish of lukewarm water IMMEDIATELY after using.
You DO NOT want the paint to dry on the silkscreen. It will clog up the holes in the mesh material and keep it from working properly
Clean your silkscreen with warm tap water. A tiny drop of liquid soap can be helpful, but expect staining to occur - It's normal.
If you feel you need to rub the screen, do so very gently, a natural sea sponge or very soft rag is recommended to lightly rub. Scrubbing too hard will damage the screen
Let it dry flat on a plastic canvas SHINY side up. You can use a paper towel but these can stick to the screen - if this happens, soak it in water until the paper towel detaches.
Blue Paku Silkscreens, food and fondant use: Always wash in lukewarm soapy water prior to first use to remove any residue from the manufacturing.
Storage
Allow your screen to air dry flat on a paper towel after washing.
Make sure your screen is completely dry before storing it away
Store flat to ensure your silkscreen stays crease free, I store mine in plastic wallets inside an A5 ring binder, it makes finding the screen you require very easy as well as protecting the screen.
Reusable, with the proper care and storage, these silkscreens will last for many years.
Acrylic texture plates
Acrylic can easily scratch, please be aware of this. When using a rolling pin over the plate, use paper between to act as a buffer. Never use needles or sharp objects as they can easily damage the stamp.
Cleaning
Clay and Craft Use: It is advised to clean your acrylic stamps with lukewarm soapy water and a soft microfibre cloth or something that won't scratch. In between washes, clean gently with a sensitive baby wipe. If clay gets trapped in the fine lines of the stamp, gently use a soft toothbrush to remove it. Leave to air dry completely.
Acrylic is a porous material - please do not use alcohol, glass cleaner or cleaning agents to clean them as this may cause them to crack over time.
Food and Fondant use: Wash the acrylic plate in lukewarm soapy water and use a soft microfibre cloth. Let air dry completely. The stamps should always be washed before the first usage, to remove any residue from the manufacturing.
These are not dishwasher safe.
Storage
Store each plate separately in the packaging they arrive in or equivalent to prevent scratches.
Store out of direct sunlight or hot conditions.
Looking after your handmade jewellery
Polymer Clay is durable but not indestructible and breakages can unfortunately still occur. Please avoid bending or dropping your jewellery handle with care.
Cleaning
Clay and resin pieces can be wiped with a damp cloth and then lightly buffed with a microfibre cloth to return the lustre. Metal components may dull over time, a gentle buff with a cotton cloth can restore their shine.
Storage
Store your pieces away from other items as Clay/resin is sensitive to scratches and dents. Always minimise exposure to excessive heat, water, lotions, sprays and perfumes. Do not wear your jewellery when swimming, bathing or sleeping.
Our cutters and clay tools are not suitable for young children due to the small parts
